Importing Data
To import data, click on “Import data” in the navigation menu on the left to reveal a dropdown menu. Here you can choose between importing a local file or importing an online file. CHMap supports CSV, GeoJson, and IIIF manifest.json file formats.

Import Local File
Click on “Local File” and a pop-up dialogue will appear.

Import your data by clicking on “Browse…” This will bring up your system’s file dialog where you can choose the file to import. Click on the blue “Import” button to import the selected file into the application.

For an example of how this works, click on the blue underlined text in the pop-up window, e.g. (example_text). The data will be downloaded to your computer, click “Browse…” to find it, upload it and practice with the dummy data.
Import Online File
Click on “Online file” and a pop-up dialog will appear.

Enter the URL of the file you wish to import. Click on the blue “Import” button to load the chosen file into the application.

For an example of how this works, click on the blue underlined text in the pop-up window, e.g. (example_text). Then click import to practice with dummy data.
Clustering Effect
Imported data nodes will appear on the map. Data nodes cluster together when zooming out; zooming in will separate them to their more precise locations. This can be seen in the screenshots below.


Data Node Actions
Clicking on a data node will show an overview of information on this node and some more options as can be seen below.

Enlarge Image
Click on the image to view an enlarged version in a floating panel on the right.

Data Node’s Metadata
To view a node’s metadata, click the “i” icon in the node overview as highlighted below. This shows the metadata in a floating panel on the right.


Reload the Image
If the image does not load in the overview, click the “clockwise” icon to reload the image.

Show Available Maps
Images that are not maps have a “Show available maps” option in the overview. Available public maps will appear in a panel on the right of the screen.

Show All Images of This Book
While viewing a book, there is an option to show all images of the same book. Click on this button to reveal all images in a panel on the left of the screen. The title of the book will also be shown.


Show All Images at this Location
Similarly, click on “Show all images at this location” to view all images filtered by the location of the data node.

IIIF Viewer
For images that are linked to the external IIF viewer, click the blue “IIIF Viewer” button to open the image externally.

Year Metadata
Click the “i” in the overview of the data node to show the metadata associated with this data node. To view the year metadata, scroll down in the metadata in the panel on the right and click on the link at the bottom in the format “date: Day Mon 01…”


Context Actions
The Count of Data Nodes
The total number of data nodes displayed at any one time will appear in the context action toolbar at the top of the screen as highlighted below.

Keywords Input Box
To filter loaded data nodes by a keyword, search for this word in the search box in the context action toolbar at the top of the screen and then hit enter or press the magnifying glass
